For Love of Writing: Developing a Practice & Practicing with Memoir
Writing under the pen name R.I. Sutton, Beck has had her short stories published in Australia, Canada and the United States. She has worked as a freelance editor, tutored in Creative Writing and is currently engaged in 'The Harebrained Press Project': an adventure in book publishing using traditional methods of printing and binding. The result of this venture, her first collection of tales titled, Closer Than Breathing, will be launched in 2019. Beck will talk about her more personalised aspects of writing craft: developing and maintaining a practice based on enthusiasm rather than discipline. She will also introduce us to a great source of inspiration and writerly growth – our own lives. Working with a series of writing exercises, each building on the next, we will come to understand the fundamentals of the memoir form.
